2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our video summarization service
  • Process your video summarization requests
  • Store your summaries in your personal library
  • Track your usage against your subscription limits
  • Send you service-related communications (account updates, security alerts)
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve our service
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:

  • Database: We use Supabase, a secure PostgreSQL database platform, to store your account information and summaries
  • Authentication: User authentication is handled securely through Supabase Auth with encrypted credentials
  • Caching: Frequently accessed data may be cached using Redis for improved performance
  • Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL

4. Third-Party Services

We work with trusted third-party services to provide our functionality:

OpenAI

We use OpenAI's API to process video transcripts and generate summaries. Transcript content is sent to OpenAI for AI processing. OpenAI's data usage is governed by their privacy policy and API terms of service.

Supadata

We use Supadata to fetch video transcripts from YouTube. Only the YouTube video URL is shared with this service to retrieve the transcript content.

LemonSqueezy

Payment processing is handled by LemonSqueezy. We do not store your full payment card details. LemonSqueezy processes payments securely in compliance with PCI-DSS standards.

Google (YouTube)

We use the YouTube Data API to fetch video metadata (title, thumbnail, duration). We also offer Google sign-in for authentication convenience.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and local storage minimally and only for essential functionality:

  • Authentication cookies: To keep you signed in securely
  • Session cookies: To maintain your session state
  • Local storage: To store user preferences and UI state (like the welcome modal)

We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes. We do not sell your data to third parties.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

Access Your Data

You can access all your summaries and account information through your dashboard and library at any time.

Export Your Data

You can export your summaries in PDF or Markdown format. Contact us if you need a complete export of all your data.

Delete Your Data

You can delete individual summaries from your library. To delete your entire account and all associated data, please contact us at the email below.

Opt-Out of Communications

You can manage your email preferences in your account settings to opt out of non-essential communications.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes. Cached data (such as video transcripts) may be retained for up to 7 days for performance optimization.

8. Children's Privacy

Distill is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete such information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
